Man strangulates child, baby found alive in forest

Bareilly (UP), May 9 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a man strangulated his three-year-old son in a fit of rage and dumped him in the forest, thinking him to be dead.
A woman from a neighbouring village later found the boy and took him home.
According to the SHO of Cantonment police station, Rajeev Singh, Ram Lakhan's wife informed the police that her husband had confessed to killing their son following a fight with her. A police team went looking for the 'body' but could not find the child.
Later, the police were tipped that a woman form the neighbouring village had found an abandoned boy. The police went to her house, identified the boy and handed him over to his mother.
Ram Lakhan has been booked under IPC Section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and taken into custody.
Interestingly, the move comes a week after neighbouring Madhya Pradesh permitted liquor sales at all its airports, select supermarkets in four major cities and also allowed issuing home bar licences to those earning Rs 1 crore or more annually.
The incident took place on Wednesday and the accused are said to be illicit liquor sellers in the area. It has been alleged that the woman was also gang-raped. A video of the incident showed the woman being attacked.
