Mansa Incident: Capt. Amarinder Singh Demands Inquiry Into Dalit Youth Murder

Darpan News Desk IANS, 13 Oct, 2016 12:59 PM
Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh on Wednesday demanded an inquiry into the Mansa incident that took place on October 11. Slamming the Akali Dal government, he said, “This is tragic and we demand an investigation into this but they (accused) have political protection, what’ll police do?”

A Dalit youth in Punjab’s Mansa district was allegedly hacked to death on the suspicion that he was acting as an informer for liquor contractors and the police, and helping in exposing illegal sale of liquor in his area.

Sukhchain Singh, 20, a resident of Gharangna village, was allegedly beaten to death by seven people on Monday night.

The mutilated body of Sukhchain was found near his home later.

According to police, Sukhchain’s killers chopped off his left leg and might have taken it along.

Resham Singh (47), father of the victim, in his complaint alleged that Sukhchain was brutally beaten up by sticks by seven people — Kuljeet Singh, Balveer Singh, Hardeep Singh, Amandeep, Sadhu Singh, Sita Singh and Babreek Singh Resham Singh, a labourer, is a Mazbhi Sikh (Schedule caste).

The autopsy could not be conducted as the family said they would not allow the examination till the lost limb was recovered.

A case has been registered under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Kot Dhamu Police Station. As per locals, Sukhchain also used to “sell liquor illegally”.
