Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday conveyed Eid-ul-Fitr greetings to the people of India and called up several world leaders, including Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan and Bangladesh Premier Sheikh Hasina, to greet them on the festival.
 
He also conveyed greetings to Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen and Iran's Hassan Rouhani. 
 
Modi said the festival will help strengthen the spirit of harmony and peace in society.
 
"My greetings and best wishes on Eid-ul-Fitr. May this special day deepen the spirit of harmony and peace in society," Modi said in his message.
 
"Spoke to President Rouhani, President Ghani, PM Nawaz Sharif, PM Sheikh Hasina and President Yameen and greeted them on Eid," the Prime Minister added.
 
Other world leaders Modi greeted on Eid included Saudi Arabia's King Salman, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan, the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and Iran President Hassan Rouhani.
