MP: Preparations begin for Priyanka's June 12 Jabalpur rally

Bhopal, May 12 (IANS) Madhya Pradesh Congress unit on Friday kicked-started its preparation for a mega rally of party leader Priyanka Gandhi in Jabalpur on June 12.
Veteran leader and vice president of Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Chandraprabhash Shekhar told IANS that it would be a mega event, which will set the tone for the Assembly polls due this year end.
Former minister Shekhar, who is in charge of the preparation, will hold a meeting with party's leaders and workers from Mahakaushal region. "I will be visiting Jabalpur on May 20 and hold discussion regarding the event."
He further said that the Congress will highlight its proposed financial scheme for women- "Nari Samman Yojna" and the party's national general secretary would appeal to women voters to extend their support to the party.
Madhya Pradesh's Mahakaushal region has 38 Assembly seats and the Congress had won 24 of them prompting the Central BJP leadership to focussed in the region.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said he will invite Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Punjab Governor V.P. Badnore and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as guests at the special session.
Chidambaram was addressing a press conference at the fag-end of his two-day visit to the state in the capacity as the All India Congress Committee's senior observer in charge of Goa ahead of the 2022 state assembly polls.
Punjab annually generates 20 million tonnes of paddy straw and this is normally set on fire to quickly clear the fields for the next crop, resulting in choking of the National Capital Region (NCR) in October and November.
Priyanka's remarks came after farmers on Tuesday evening vacated the railway tracks and highways in Punjab after the Amarinder Singh government accepted the demands of the sugarcane farmers.
The 'rebel' legislators reached Dehradun in the morning to apprise Rawat about the mood of the public against the Amarinder Singh-led government in the state. They, among 20-odd party legislators, have been demanding replacement of Amarinder Singh as he failed to fulfill the 2017 poll promises.
Rao also slammed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for raking up 10-year-old allegations related to the mining scam in an attempt to put Congress leaders in the dock in pollbound Goa.
