Nearly 1,000 Chinese soldiers enter India

Darpan News Desk IANS, 18 Sep, 2014 11:55 AM
Nearly 1,000 Chinese soldiers Thursday intruded into India in Ladakh's Chumur sector, on a day Chinese President Xi Jinping is on an official visit here.

According to army sources, nearly 1,000 Chinese soldiers moved inside the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region, and refused to go back.

The Indian Army has rushed three battalions to Chumur, located over 300 km northeast of Leh and bordering Himachal Pradesh.

Several attempts of incursion have been made by China in this area in the past.

A flag meeting held between the two countries Wednesday failed to reach any conclusion, and over 300 Chinese soldiers were in Chumur already Wednesday.

More troops were pushed in Thursday morning by China.

Xi is on a three-day sojourn to India that began from Ahmedabad Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday raised with Xi the latest incursion by Chinese troops into Indian territory during their meeting, the external affairs ministry said.

Both leaders also agreed that the border issue needs to be resolved soon.
