Another grim outlook for India's capital New Delhi with a surge in COVID19 cases. On Tuesday 6,224 new cases were recorded with a positivity rate sitting at 10.14 per cent while another 109 mortalities bringing the total number of deaths to 8,621. 

According to the latest news release circulated by the Delhi Health Department these relatively high number of new cases are a result of the 61,381 tests done on Monday. 

New Delhi recorded its one day single highest count of 8,593 cases on November 11 when 85 deaths linked to the pandemic were also recorded. 

This is the seventh time in the last 13 days that the daily number of deaths has surpassed 100. There were 121 deaths on Monday, 121 deaths on Sunday, 111 on Saturday, 118 on Friday,131 on November 18, the highest till date, and 104 fatalities on November 12.

According to the release from health officials, the total number of cases has increased to 5,40,541 of which 4,93,419 have recovered.

The number of COVID19 containment zones in Delhi also rose to 4,708 on Tuesday compared to 4,692 Monday.
