No Early Assembly Polls In Punjab: Badal

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 31 May, 2016 11:49 AM
Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Tuesday said that there was no move to advance the assembly elections in the state.

"The state would go to polls on the stipulated time schedule. There is no question to prepone these elections and would be held on its due date," he told media in Ropar district.

Elections to 117 assembly seats in Punjab are likely to be held in February next year as per schedule.

Badal, who is the patron of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal, also said that he saw no threat to the Akali Dal-BJP alliance, which has been in power in Punjab since 2007, from the opposition Congress and new entrant Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The contest on most seats is likely to be triangular in the next assembly polls.
