No safety breach during mid-air jig: SpiceJet

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Mar, 2014 11:55 AM
Budget carrier SpiceJet Thursday said its crew did not violate any safety norms while conducting mid-air dances in some of its flights as part of the Holi celebrations.

Aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued the airline a show cause notice on possible air safety breach and suspended two of its pilots.

“We are in the process of replying to the DGCA on the show cause notice issued to us. Our defence is that at no point of time air safety norms were violated, as the crew performed a small dance show for passengers,” a SpiceJet official told IANS.

“Precautionary measures like extra crew on flights were deployed before the dance sequence which lasted only 2.5 minutes was performed.”

The matter surfaced when video clips and photos of the mid air event were uploaded by passengers on popular social media and video sharing websites.

Taking cognisance of the matter aviation regulator suspended two pilots of the low-cost carrier, on account of safety breach, as one of the aviators was seen taking pictures while the show was being conducted.

Under the safety precautions pilots are only allowed to move out of the cockpit to use the lavatories in the course of a flight.

During such time a crew member is stationed outside the cockpit.
