On Gurpurb, High Court Order On Crackers Goes Up In Smoke

IANS, 06 Nov, 2017 12:53 PM
Ignoring the time limit imposed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Mohali residents burst crackers till midnight on Gurpurb. The local police failed to book the violators.

The High Court had allowed the bursting of crackers from 6.30 pm to 9.30 pm on Diwali and Gurpurb. On Diwali too, the police failed to check violators. Paramjit Singh, a resident of Phase VII, said fireworks continued till midnight, though the intensity was less.

“Several people started bursting crackers after the deadline in our area,” said Paramjit Singh.

Similarly, Deepark Verma, a resident of Phase IIIA, said the sound of fireworks could be heard even after midnight.

“What to talk of registering cases, the police did not even patrol the area,” claimed Tejinder Singh, a resident of Phase I. Despite repeated attempts, Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal was not available for comments.
