One dead, five injured after DTC bus loses control in Delhi; driver held

New Delhi, May 24 (IANS) One person died while five others were injured after a DTC cluster bus lost control and hit five vehicles in Delhi's New Friends Colony area, the police said on Wednesday.
The police said that the accused driver, identified as Neeraj Kumar (35), a resident of Mandoli Extension, has been apprehended.
The mishap occurred at around 4:45 p.m. when the bus going from Nehru Place to Maharani Bagh lost control and rammed into multiple vehicles, causing the death of one person besides leaving five others injured, two of them critically. The identity of the deceased man is yet to be ascertained.
"A PCR call was recieved regarding the accident, following which a police team was rushed to the spot," said a senior police officer.
Eyewitnesses said that there was chaos on the road as the cluster bus lost control, ramming into multiple vehicles which were unsuspectingly caught on its path.
The impact was particularly devastating for a Wagon R taxi, one three-wheeler, and a scooter, which bore the brunt of the collision.
The three-wheeler driver was declared brought dead at the Holy family hospital.
One leg of the scooter rider, identified as Mohammad Sakid, got amputated, while two other injured persons, identified as Sajjadul Islam (a doctor by profession) and Kalimuddin, are undergoing treatment.
"The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. The police are trying to find out if it was the driver's fault, or there was some technical glitch leading to the accident," the officer said, adding that a case under the relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the New Friends Colony police station.
He trashed allegations that the Border Security Force (BSF) would take over the state's administration or will be deployed in the Golden Temple, and said such misconceptions were being spread by certain people to score brownie points in the run-up to the Assembly elections.
Accusing the BJP of only serving the corporates, he said the BJP government is committed to serve the industrialists who have already set up silos and other infrastructure because of the farm laws.
Claiming that the Delhi government has not withheld a single penny from the MCD, he alleged that the BJP has used its revenues earned from toll tax and advertisements for "illegal purposes". He also said that the saffron party has floated a tender for medicines, which cannot be procured before December.
An indication in this regard came on Tuesday when his media advisor Raveen Thukral extended an invite to the media for Amarinder Singh's press briefing in Chandigarh.
Concerned over the manner in which Bollywood is being "targeted" by the Narcotics Control Bureau for the past over one year, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray will write to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue, Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik said on Tuesday.
After examining the plea, an order was passed by a bench of Justices A.G. Masih and A.K. Verma to enable the prosecuting agency to proceed as per law, an official statement quoting the office of Advocate General A.P.S. Deol said.
