Over 2 lakh rescued in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir

    Over 237,000 people have so far been rescued in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir and the train route between Srinagar and Baramulla has been restored, an official statement said.
     
    "Over 237,000 people have been rescued so far by the armed forces and NDRF (National Disaster Relief) from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir," a statement from the defence ministry said.
     
    "Three teams of naval marine commandos are actively involved in rescue operations at Watlab, Widipura and Tankpura," it added.
     
    More than 600,000 litres of water and over 1,400 tonnes of food packets and cooked food have already been distributed in the flood-affected areas.
     
    So far, 64 transport aircraft and helicopters of the Indian Air Force and Army Aviation Corps are continuing their efforts in rescue and relief operations.
     
    The armed forces have also established 19 relief camps in the state where thousands of rescued people are being sheltered and provided with food and other basic amenities.
     
    The connectivity between Srinagar, Sonamarg and Baramulla has been restored while the link from Jammu to Poonch has also been cleared for traffic.
     
    Srinagar to Baramulla train route has also been cleared.
