Pakistan Rejects Kartarpur Land Swap Offer

Darpan News Desk IANS, 21 Dec, 2018 09:05 AM

Pakistan on Thursday rejected a resolution passed by the Punjab Assembly recently demanding that Islamabad should swap Kartarpur with India for another piece of land.

"Regarding Kartarpur, there is absolutely no question of any land swap," responded Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokespeson Mohammad Faisal today.

"The Kartarpur Corridor was a gesture for the Sikh minority community made on their request to provide a visa-free corridor, facilitating their visit of a shrine of importance to them," he added.

The Punjab Assembly had unanimously passed a resolution seeking land swap with Pakistan to make Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib part of Indian territory.

The state government had decided to take up the proposal with the Central Government, offering over 11,000 acres in exchange for the land on which Kartarpur Sahib is located on the banks of the Ravi.
