Former Indian hockey captain and Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Pargat Singh has refused to take oath as chief parliamentary secretary (CPS), scheduled to be administered by chief minister Parkash Singh Badal in Chandigarh .

Singh’s associate, whose name was announced among seven MLAs to be elevated as CPS by the Punjab government on Tuesday, said the MLA was upset with the SAD over “many issues” and was not ready to “fall in any trap of CPS”.

He has written a letter too expressing inability to CM Badal, it is learnt, though he maintained silence over the issue and switched off his mobile phone too.

The move comes amidst the speculations that the former star sports icon would leave the SAD and join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
