PM Modi lauds Pope Francis' commitment to serve people, invites him to visit India

Apulia (Italy), June 14 (IANS) Admiring his commitment to serve people, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended an invitation to Pope Francis to visit India at an early date.

As he entered the meeting venue and met the world leaders, the Pope was greeted with a hug from PM Modi.

In October 2021, the Pope received PM Modi during a private audience at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, which was also the first meeting between an Indian Prime Minister and the Pope in more than two decades.

In June 2000, late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had last visited the Vatican and met the then Pope, John Paul II.

India and The Holy See have friendly relations dating back to the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1948. India is also home to the second-largest Catholic population in Asia.

The Delhi government on Friday said that to tackle the problem of increasing pollution in the national capital, construction and demolition works have been banned in the city. Boring, drilling, excavation, and stuffing have been strictly prohibited in construction and demolition sites. There will be a complete restriction on all structural construction work, including building activities.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the World Food India festival on Friday at Pragati Maidan here. Air pollution: Delhi metro to run 60 additional trains on its all route from Friday

In view of deteriorating air quality and with GRAP-III now in force, the Delhi Metro on Thursday announced that it will run 60 additional train trips across its network starting from Friday. According to Delhi Metro officials, in view of the implementation of GRAP-III stage to combat pollution in Delhi, the DMRC will be further adding 20 extra trips across its network starting from November 3.
