PM Modi Tweets Condolences Over Terror Attacks In France, Kuwait, Tunisia

The Canadian Press, 26 Jun, 2015 11:54 AM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday tweeted his condolences over terror attacks in France, Kuwait and Tunisia, that left over 50 people dead, and said the progress of humanity lies in peace and brotherhood and not in terror and mindless violence.

Modi tweeted: "My thoughts and prayers are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the cowardly attacks in France, Kuwait and Tunisia. The progress of humanity lies in peace, brotherhood and non-violence, not in hatred, terror and mindless violence against others."

In Tunisia, at least 27 people were killed in an armed attack on a hotel in the resort of Sousse. Tunisia has been on high alert since March when gunmen attacked the Bardo museum in Tunis, killing a group of foreign tourists in one of the worst attacks in a decade in the North African country.

In a terror attack in France, a man was beheaded and several others injured on Friday in a suspected Islamist attack on a gas factory in Isere, in the Rhone-Alps region of France. The attack was declared a "terrorist" act by President Francois Hollande.

Several small explosive devices were also set off at the Air Products factory in Saint-Quentin-Fallavier, near the French city of Lyon, and the alleged attacker was said to have been carrying an Islamist flag, which was found nearby, reports said.

In Kuwait, 25 people were killed and at least 202 others wounded on Friday in a suicide bomb attack on a Shia mosque which the Islamic State militant group claimed responsibility for.

The blast rocked the Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque, located in the busy neighbourhood of al-Sawabir of Kuwait city, reports said.
