Punjab ex-MLA arrested for owning disproportionate assets

Chandigarh, May 16 (IANS) The Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Tuesday arrested Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, the former MLA from Faridkot, for possession of assets disproportionate to known sources of income.
A spokesperson for the bureau said a corruption case has been registered him along with Gursewak Singh and Rajwinder Singh.
He said to assess all moveable and immovable assets of Dhillon, a check period has been fixed for five years from April 1, 2017. During the probe, it was found that he had created wealth more than all his income and purchased properties in the names of other persons in Mumara village in Sadik tehsil in Faridkot district.
It was also found that he had made expenditures of about 245 per cent than his known sources of income, he added.
A case under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against them. The former MLA will be produced in a court on Wednesday.
The fortified rice would be available throughout the TPDS under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman-PM POSHAN [erstwhile Mid-Day Meal Scheme (MDM)] and Other Welfare Schemes (OWS), a cabinet statement said.
The accused, identified as Prince Emeka Lath (34), a permanent resident of Anambara in Nigeria, was presently residing in Tilak Nagar. He came to India on a tourist visa in January 2017, but even after his visa expired, he neither extended it nor returned to his country.
This was the eighth abstention at the UN by India on a matter involving the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Thursday's abstention by India was a defiance of Russia, which threatened those abstaining.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the flying squad, Udyog Vihar police station and Cyber Crime police led by DSP Inderjeet Singh Yadav of CM flying wing and Rajeev Kumar, ACP (Udyog Vihar) raided the call centre and recovered Rs 22.50 lakh in cash, six laptops, three desktops, 18 mobile phones and a 64 GB pen drive.
