Putin conveys inability to attend G20 summit to Modi, to send Foreign Minister

New Delhi, August 28 (IANS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a telephone conversation on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who conveyed his inability to attend the G20 summit in New Delhi, which is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10.

Putin informed Modi that Russia would be represented by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the G20 summit.

The two leaders reviewed progress on number of issues of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual concern, including the recently concluded BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

While expressing understanding for Russia’s decision, Modi thanked Putin for Russia’s consistent support to all initiatives under India’s G20 presidency. The two leaders agreed to remain in touch.

The Income Tax Department on Tuesday said that it has unearthed unaccounted transactions exceeding Rs 100 crore during searches on a few groups engaged in jewellery and real estate business across the country in connection with alleged tax evasion. According to an official, on November 17, the searches were carried out in more than 30 locations spread across Patna, Bhagalpur, Dehri-on-Sone, Lucknow and Delhi.
