Rahul Gandhi summoned by ED in National Herald case for 5th time

New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned on Tuesday - for the fifth time - by the Enforcement Directorate for questioning the investigation in connection with its probe in the National Herald case.
Till now, he has been questioned for about 40 hours by the anti-money laundering agency, including on Monday.
Gandhi was reportedly questioned about a few transactions made by Kolkata-based Dotex Merchandise Pvt Ltd.
Earlier, the Congress leader had denied having knowledge of any sort of loan taken by Young Indian, according to ED sources. In fact, he is reported to have told the ED that he was not aware of the accommodation entry of YI.
Gandhi also said that the late Congress Treasurer Motilal Vora was engaged in all these sorts of affairs. Vora held 12 per cent stake in YI, while Rahul Gandhi and his mother and party chief Sonia Gandhi had 76 per cent stake.
"Gandhi said he had no knowledge of YI-AJL deal as Vora was looking after it," a sources said.
Sonia Gandhi, who was in hospital for Covid related health issues, has also been summoned on June 23 in the same case.

Lieutenant Colonel Harjinder Singh who died in the tragic helicopter crash along with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Bipin Rawat and others, had been married to Prafulla from Karnataka. Prafulla is the native of Salmaru village near Karkala town in Udupi district. A pall of gloom descended on the family after the news of the tragedy broke out.
The force said that positive identification of only three mortal remains -- Gen Rawat, Madhulika Rawat and Brig L.S. Lidder -- has been possible as of now, and their mortal remains will be released to the next of kin for final rites as desired by the respective families.
Almost 15 months after the farmers' agitation began against the (now scrapped) farm laws and other issues, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmer unions that led the protest, said on Thursday that it has suspended the agaitation after receiving positive assurances from the government on their demands, adding that the borders of Delhi will be cleared by Saturday.
India's civil aviation regulator, the DGCA, on Thursday extended the ban on scheduled international commercial flights till January 31.Earlier, India had announced plans to allow resumption of scheduled commercial international passenger services from December 15 with certain conditions.
