Rape Accused Swami Nithyananda Sets Up Own 'Hindu Sovereign Nation'

Darpan News Desk IANS, 04 Dec, 2019 09:00 PM

Reports are doing the rounds about absconding godman Swami Nithyananda's legal team is hard at work on the draft of a petition to the UN seeking recognition for his "sovereign nation of Kailaasa". It is being speculated that his petition is based on alleged threats to his life in India as he aims to practice and propagate Hinduism.

On the run from the authorities in India for various crimes, Swami Nithyananda, whose whereabouts were a mystery, popped up in the media glare for establishing a "Hindu sovereign nation" for "dispossessed Hindus from around the world who lost the right to practice Hinduism authentically in their own countries." Apparently purchasing an island off the coast of Ecuador, he christened it as "Kailaasa" and created a constitution, flag and emblem for it.

Ostensibly set up to nurture Sanatana Dharma, Kailasaa's objectives, as per its website, include the preservation, restoration and revival of an enlightened culture and civilisation based on authentic Hinduism. Other lofty ideals and objectives of Kailaasa include universal free healthcare, free education for all, free food, and revival of a temple-based lifestyle.

Citizenship to the new "nation" is very selective and open only to people who are Nithyananda's devotees and must receive clearances from its "Prime Minister" and "Cabinet".

Kailaasa nation comes with its own passport which allows its holders "free entry in all eleven dimensions and fourteen lokas, including Kailaasa". It will have its own currency too, and also accept crypto-currency, as per its website. Perhaps reflective of the times, while English, Sanskrit and Tamil are listed as official languages, Hindi does not make it to the list.

Over the years, the godman, whose real name is Rajasekharam and hails from Tamil Nadu, has frequently figured in the news - usually for the wrong reasons. If, a few years ago it was for a viral video showcasing his peccadilloes with a south Indian actress, his tryst with the law escaped from the country for his alleged role in the wrongful confinement and sexual harassment of two young girls in Gujarat.

Even as the Indian government is grappling with the idea of making India a home for displaced Hindus, Nithyananda seems to be achieving it in one stroke!

Twitter posts funny comments on Nithyananda's 'nation'

Twitter users on Wednesday posted funny comments and memes regarding fugitive godman Nithyananda, who is said to have founded his own independent nation 'Kailaasa' near Ecuador in Latin America.

He is under probe for alleged involvement in criminal cases, including rape. #Kailaasa trended on Twitter with 10.4K tweets.

One user wrote: "You were made in a country. I made a new country. We are not the same bro. #Kailaasa".

Users also posted memes on the issue. One had pictures of fugitive business tycoon Vijaya Mallya and Nithyananda along with comments that while kids formed republic, adults took long vacations, the legends started a nation.

Another meme on similar lines said that while kids flee to Nepal, adults flee to UK, the legends make their own country.

One user asked: "What is the procedure to get visa?? Or is it on arrival?"

"Inspired by #Kailaasa, I am starting a new country. This is the flag of the kingdom," read another post which had a picture of a flag with an overflowing beer mug in the centre.

One Twitter user wrote: "In this nation, the sun rises in the afternoon or evening because sometimes Nithyananda forgets to give permission. So Kailaasa is the only country on the planet with infinite hours in a day."

Ashwin sees funny side in Kailaasa announcement

A day after self-styled godman Swami Nithyananda claimed to have founded his own country and designed its flag, constitution and emblem, Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin saw the funny side of the episode, asking for a visa for that place.

"What is the procedure to get visa?? Or is it on arrival?" Ashwin tweeted, tongue in cheek on Wednesday.

Even as the Gujarat Police is looking for Nithyananda in an alleged case of kidnapping and wrongful confinement of children to make them collect donations from followers to run his ashram in Ahmedabad, a website named Kailaasa.org has popped up suggesting that he has founded his own country.

The website declared that the fugitive godman has declared a 'Hindu sovereign nation' and even has a cabinet along with a prime minister.

It has also called for donations for the country and through it, an opportunity to gain citizenship of the "greatest Hindu nation", Kailaasa.
