'Robin Hood' Delhi Thief Arrested From Bihar

IANS, 17 Jul, 2017 11:45 AM
Delhi Police have arrested a 27-year-old thief, who led a lavish life, conducted health camps and helped in the marriage of poor girls, from his native village, police said on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Romil Baaniya said accused Irfan, 27, and Dharmender, 30, who used to buy stolen goods -- both from Sitamarhi of Bihar -- were arrested on July 6 from Sitamarhi.

"Irfan portrayed himself as a successful business man and did charitable activities in his village. Since he had a very good reputation in the village, we even faced resistance from the villagers while arresting him," an officer privy to the case told IANS.

Police also recovered eight gold bangles, two diamond rings and a Rolex watch, among other things.

On May 24, police received a complaint about a burglary in New Friends Colony in south Delhi and they were able to identify the accused from CCTV footage.

Investigations revealed that the thief was from Bihar. After collecting information through sources in Bihar, a team of Delhi Police finally arrested Irfan on July 6 from his native village.

Later, police recovered stolen jewellery and arrested Dharmender, who used to buy the stolen goods.

According to police, Irfan used to frequent clubs in Mumbai and Delhi, and in a city bar he even offered Rs 10,000 to hear a song of his choice.

He lived a luxurious life and used the latest cars. His pictures on social media also revealed that he led a lavish lifestyle, police said.

Police said they had worked out 12 cases, adding that Irfan was earlier arrested by Uttar Pradesh Police.
