Rupee Downslide Continues For Third Straight Day, Falls To 67.60 Per Dollar

Continuing its slide for the third straight day, the rupee depreciated further by 12 paise to 67.60 against the US dollar in early trade today on sustained demand for the American currency from importers and banks.

Dealers attributed the rupee's fall to persistent demand for the US currency, but dollar's weakness against euro and other currencies overseas and a higher opening in the domestic equity market restricted the loss.

The domestic unit closed lower by 17 paise at 67.48 in yesterday's trade on persistent dollar demand from banks and importers amidst weakness in equities.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex recovered 30.41 points, or 0.11 per cent, to 26,843.19 in early deals.

New Delhi, Reflecting his discontent about the functioning of the Aam Aadmi Party, senior leader Prashant Bhushan has written a letter raising questions about some decisions of party convenor Arvind Kejriwal who is now chief minister of Delhi. New Delhi, AAP leader Yogendra Yadav on Monday said that he felt sad over false reports about him and Prashant Bhushan being unhappy with the happenings in the party, added this was a time to work with a large heart following their big win in Delhi. "I feel sad and at the same time (feel like) laughing too after reading whatever is being said in the media about me and Prashant ji for the last two days... Delhi has given such huge mandate to AAP. I would appeal that we should not let the faith of people dwindle in the AAP," Yadav said in a tweet Monday morning.
