Schemes soon to revive Benarasi sari, carpet industries

    The NDA government is preparing a roadmap to restart many small and cottage industries in Varanasi and its neighbourhood that are shut, union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra said Friday.
     
    Addressing a press conference in Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's parliamentary constituency, the micro, small and medium entreprises minister said a meeting for this has been called June 26.
     
    "Modiji has attracted the world by contesting from Varanasi and all of us are working to do justice to Varanasi and the entire Poorvanchal. We are committed to giving a fresh impetus to the cottage industry and weavers in this region, and a new identity," he said.
     
    Mishra added attention will be given to the world-acclaimed Benarasi sari and the carpets of Bhadohi, a suburb of Varanasi.
     
    New schemes are being worked on and fresh initiatives will be announced soon, the minister added. 
     
    He said special schemes are being tailor-made for Gorakhpur, Deoria, Ballia, Ghazipur and Chandauli which other than boosting the sagging industrial scenario in the region will also throw open new job opportunities.
