South African returnee tests Covid positive in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, Nov 29 (IANS) A 39-year-old South Africa returnee was retested on Monday and turned out to be positive for Covid-19, the Chandigarh administration said.
One of his family members and domestic help were also tested positive for the virus.
As per protocol, the positive cases are being shifted to an institutional quarantine facility.
The samples of the positive cases will be sent for whole genome sequencing to the NCDC, Delhi, to ascertain the variant or variant of concern, if any, an official statement said.
"A 39-year-old male resident of Sector 36 had returned from South Africa on November 21. He was RT-PCR negative on his arrival at the airport. He was quarantined at home on his arrival in Chandigarh," it added.
"The Government is aware of the statements by certain Gurudwara Committees and Organisations based in Canada, US, UK and some other countries in which they have alleged interference by Government of India representatives in the affairs of the Sikh community," VK Singh said.
Former top Karnataka police officer HT Sangliana said on Friday that his comment on Nirbhaya's mother, which has provoked all-round anger and disgust, was meant as a "compliment".
Tara had confessed to his crime thrice already before the court. The trial concluded on Friday after he said he had no regrets about what had happened.
The Central government also refuted allegations that the Border Security Forces (BSF) was using chili and stun grenades to push the refugees back, saying that these claims have been found to be "completely false, incorrect and far from the truth".
