The Reason Why Harmanpreet Kaur Wears Jersey No. 84 Will Make You Respect Her Even More!

Darpan News Desk IANS, 24 Jul, 2017 12:19 PM
India's middle order batswoman Harmanpreet Kaur Bhullar created a buzz on social media after a remarkable 171 not out off 115 balls in the Women's World Cup semi-final against Australia at Derby.

Reactions poured in from all across praising the Chandigarh girl who through this innings not only touched her 3rd ODI hundred but also became the 5th highest run-scorer in women’s cricket.

But have you ever wondered about the story behind her jersey number? She wears 84 on her back but it is not random.

Harmanpreet wears it to show solidarity with the victims of the 1984 riots. Yes, you read that right. She is pretty vocal about it and openly declares her intentions.

The 1984 anti-Sikh riots were a sad period in India's history. It was the aftermath of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination by her Sikh bodyguards.

She also dedicates all her success to those who lost their lives in the violence.
