TN: Seven burnt to death in Dindigul private hospital fire

Chennai, Dec 12 (IANS) Seven people, including a three-year-old boy, were burnt to death in a private hospital in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu, on Thursday night.

Police said that several people are feared trapped in a lift within the hospital.

An official said that Fire and Rescue personnel have begun firefighting operations to contain the blaze.

He said that around 50 ambulances from nearby areas have been deployed to transfer patients from the affected hospital to the nearby government hospital in Dindigul.

Further details are awaited as rescue operations continue.

Seventy-seven per cent voter turnout has been recorded in Punjab as per the data received from Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officers for the gram panchayat elections, State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said on Wednesday. He said Mansa district remained at the top with a poll percentage of 83.27 per cent, while Tarn Taran district saw the lowest at 64.40 per cent.

Six injured in two firing incidents in Punjab panchayat polls

Two incidents of firing were reported on Tuesday as counting of ballots for panchayat polls, is underway in Punjab. Four people were injured in Tarn Taran and two were injured in another incident in Patiala during voting. Also, two government employees died owing to poor health as polling for over 13,000 gram panchayats was underway.
