Two more guerrillas killed in Kashmir gunfight

Darpan News Desk IANS, 29 Oct, 2014 07:46 AM
Two more separatist guerrillas were killed by security forces on the second day of a 30-hour-long gunfight in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district that ended Wednesday, police said.

"One militant and a junior commissioned officer of the army were killed in the encounter yesterday (Tuesday). Two more militants were killed today (Wednesday)," a senior police officer told IANS here.

"Firing exchanges have stopped, but searches are still on. The identity of the slain militants is being established," he said.

The gunbattle took place in the district's Wadder Bala forest.

"The encounter started in the early hours of yesterday (Tuesday) after Rashtriya Rifles troopers and police surrounded the Wadder Bala forest area following intelligence reports about the presence of a group of militants there.

"When the security forces tightened the cordon, they were fired upon by hiding militants, triggering the gunbattle," the officer said.
