WATCH: Mysuru Man Leaves Job, Takes 70-Year-Old Mother On A 25,000 Km Pilgrimage On His Scooter

Darpan News Desk IANS, 23 Oct, 2019 09:02 PM

There are a few human beings who restore our facts in love and affection.

Not many who so deeply love their mothers would dare do what 39-year-old D Krishna Kumar did for his septuagenarian mother.

He took off on his 20-year-old Bajaj Chetak scooter with his mother, Choodarathna (70), sitting pillion on a pilgrimage covering almost all the holy places across all states south of the Vindhyas, riding (so far) a distance of a whopping 25,000km over seven months and seven days.

The reason? His mother, Choodarathna, was living alone in Mysuru, Karnataka, and told him she wanted to see Hampi.

"In the joint family system, my mother's role was confined to the kitchen until the death of my father," Mr Kumar, 39, told New Indian Express. "I decided that my mother deserves not only quality time from her only son, but also a dignified life for all the sacrifices she has made."

And here is the shocker: “We never stayed in any hotels or lodges, instead sought out mutts to rest our aching bodies,’’ said Kumar.

Kumar has travelled for seven months with his mother sitting pillion on his scooter. He quit his job to take his mother on the pilgrimage in January last year, and the two have together covered many holy places in India. They stayed in mutts instead of hotels and carried essentials on their scooter during this unique journey.

The touching story of D Krishna Kumar and his mother caught the attention of Anand Mahindra, who took to Twitter this morning offering to gift Mr Kumar a car.

"A beautiful story. About the love for a mother but also about the love for a country..." wrote Mr Mahindra. "If you can connect him to me, I'd like to personally gift him a Mahindra KUV 100 NXT so he can drive his mother in a car on their next journey."

Since being shared a few hours back, the post has created quite a stir among people. Till now, it has gathered over 5 lakh views – and still counting. It has also amassed more than 7,000 likes and about 1,800 retweets.

While People couldn’t stop applauding Anand Mahindra’s gesture, there were also several who showed appreciation for Kumar.
