‘When Are You Quitting Politics’, Posters In Mohali Ask Navjot Singh Sidhu

Darpan News Desk IANS, 21 Jun, 2019 08:07 PM

Posters have been put on the roadside walls of Punjab's Mohali district asking Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu to keep his word on quitting politics over last month’s General Elections.

Posters read: “When are you quitting politics??? Time to keep your word”.

Sidhu had promised he would quit politics if Congress president Rahul Gandhi would lose from Uttar Pradesh's Amethi in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Gandhi lost from his bastion to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smriti Irani by over 50,000 votes—one of the most significant losses of the elections.

Known for his controversial remarks, he has also been criticised by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for damaging the Congress prospects with his ill-timed comments against him and the party leadership in the state.

Following the poll debacle, social media also asked Sidhu when he was planning to quit.

“@sherryontopp stand true to your word...” tweeted one user.

“Politics will now be that much less entertaining as @sherryontopp prepares to keep his vow of quitting politics were @RahulGandhi to lose #Amethi. I am afraid he may already have tendered his resignation as Minister to @capt_amarinder,” tweeted another user.
