Woman tries self-immolation outside Badal's residence

    A woman was admitted Thursday to a government hospital here with over 20 percent burns after she set herself ablaze outside the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, police said.
     
    Gurpreet Kaur, who hails from Gurdaspur district, came to the chief minister's residence and wanted to meet him. Unable to meet Badal, she poured kerosene on herself and set herself ablaze, a police officer said.
     
    Security personnel at Badal's official residence tried to douse the fire and the woman was rushed to the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16.
     
    A police officer said the woman has been trying to meet Badal for the last few days and took the step as she was unable to do so.
