‘You Restored Our Faith In Humanity': Kashmiris Thank Sikhs And 'Khalsa Aid' For Help

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Feb, 2019 08:15 PM

In the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, hundreds of Kashmiri students studying in colleges and universities outside J&K continue to face the backlash and have been forced to flee.

More than 300 Kashmiri students, studying in colleges and universities in Dehradun, have left for home, fearing for their lives. They had assembled in Mohali and were staying there for a few days.

In the past three days, volunteers of Khalsa Aid, a non-profit organisation, have come to the rescue of 250 Kashmiri students and facilitated their travel to Jammu.

Volunteers said about 40 more students were expected to arrive in the city on Wednesday morning.

“We are still verifying, but about 40 more students may arrive here on Wednesday,” said Amarpreet Singh, a Khalsa Aid volunteer.

As the Punjab Government and the Chandigarh administration had assured protection to the Kashmiri students, around 140 students flocked at Gurdwara Sahib Singh Shaheedan in Mohali on Monday night, seeking refuge.

With only four rooms available at the gurdwara, former SGPC member Amarinder Singh facilitated their stay at Gurdwara Sacha Dhan in Mohali. Thirteen of the students who arrived at the gurdwara were girls, said Amarpreet.

“Nine of the 13 girls, who were staying here, have been sent to Jammu, while four of them will board the flight to Srinagar from Bathinda Wednesday morning,” he said.

There have been reports of expulsion and suspension of students from several universities and colleges across the country over posting of messages on social media after the Pulwama attack.
