Align Entertainment holding auditions for Shrek the Musical

Darpan News Desk, 05 Jun, 2019 11:30 PM

Have people told you, you sound exactly like Donkey from the iconic story of Shrek or that your vertically challenged prince-like stature may serve you well on stage?

You may be just the person Align Entertainment needs for their next musical theatre production – Shrek the Musical.

Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of landscape, Shrek the Musical is just like the animated movie series and chronicles the life of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Along the way, he meets others as unique as he is, realizes his own self-worth and spoiler alert – overcomes the bullies who have taunted him his entire existence.

“One of the best life lessons that comes out of Shrek is how important it is to be yourself - captured in everybody’s favorite song from the show, ‘let your freak flag fly,’” says Align Entertainment’s director and co-producer Chad Matchette.

Auditions are now open for the theatre company’s latest Shrek production that is set to run in February 2020 at the Michael J Fox Theatre with rehearsals starting in November of this year.

Matchette says it’s always interesting to see who tries out for the roles in Align’s productions which have been running since 2014.

“We are always thrilled with who comes out for these auditions and don’t put any restrictions on them so as a result, the range of talent and different backgrounds is incredibly diverse.”

Anyone interested in auditioning is encouraged to come out as even if actors, professional or beginner, are not cast as a character, Matchette points out there are many ensemble opportunities in this production that would be suitable for adults and children. He adds however anyone interested should schedule their audition time as soon as possible, as few openings remain, and audition dates only run until June 12 2019.
