Authorities Searching For Venomous Snake On The Loose Near Toronto

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 31 Aug, 2016 11:47 AM
AJAX, Ont. — Authorities are searching for a venomous snake on the loose in a conservation area east of Toronto.

The Toronto Region Conservation Authority says they received a call Tuesday about a large snake that was spotted over the weekend in Greenwood Conservation Area in Ajax, Ont.

After consulting with the Toronto Zoo on a photograph sent by the person who saw it, the conservation authority says the snake has been identified as a copperhead, which is venomous and not native to Canada.

The conservation authority says a bite from the snake is usually not fatal to adults, but could be dangerous to pets and children.

They are advising people to stay on marked trails in the area and to keep their pets on short leashes.

The Town of Ajax is coming up with a plan to find the snake.
