Canada Willing To Discuss NAFTA With A Trump Administration: Justin Trudeau

The Canadian Press, 10 Nov, 2016 12:45 PM
SYDNEY, N.S. — Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canada is willing to discuss the North American Free Trade Agreement with a Trump administration.

U.S. president-elect Donald Trump vowed during the campaign to renegotiate NAFTA and other trade deals, and David MacNaughton, the Canadian ambassador to Washington, said Wednesday Canada is willing to "come to the table."

On Thursday in Sydney, N.S., Trudeau said he's "happy" to talk about NAFTA if the Americans want to.

He said he congratulated Trump during a brief phone conversation Wednesday night, and the president-elect expressed warmth towards Canada.

Trudeau called it a strong beginning to what will be a constructive relationship between Canada and the United States.

He said Canadians expect their prime minister to have a good relationship with whomever is president.
