The 28-year-old Malvika Iyer who lost her hands in a grenade blast, was lauded by renowned chef Vikas Khanna, who also promised her saying it is his dream to cook with her.

Malvika took to twitter to share her story. Malvika said, when she lost her both hands in bomb blast, she was convinced that she won’t be able to cook in her life again.

But with her talent, she ended up getting praises from all over the world. Her post was retweeted 4,795 times and received 8,010 likes.

She tweeted, “When I lost both my hands to the bomb blast, I’d convinced myself that in this life, I’d never be able to cook on my own. I was having a bad day today so I picked up the phone to call mom and tell her that there was a thing that I haven’t tried yet and asked her for a simple recipe to make mixed vegetable curry and she gave me one.”

Taking about the hurdles faced while cooking, Malvika wrote, I took time to clean, open the spices jars, stir, measure, etc.” However, the outcome of her tremendous hard-work was a “delicious subji” (vegetable dish), “Can you actually believe this? I cooked without my hands, all by myself! I still can’t believe it. Moral of the story: Be unstoppable,” she said.

Malvika lost both her hands in a grenade blast and sustained severe injuries to both her legs, at the early age of 13 at her home in Bikaner, Rajasthan. She also suffered from multiple fractures, nerve paralysis, and hypoesthesia. For 18 months, she was hospitalised and had undergone multiple surgeries.

After years of surgeries and rehabilitation, the 28-year-old is now a Disability Rights activist, TEDx speaker, and member of the United Nations IANYD Working Group and Global Shapers Community.
