Canada has evinced keen interest in investing in Haryana in civil aviation, skill development, education, defence, and smart city projects, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said on Friday.

Haryana chief minister Friday debunked his Punjab counterpart Capt Amarinder Singh’s statement calling the Canadian defence minister Harjit Singh Sajjan “a Khalistani sympathiser.”

Amarinder had refused to meet Sajjan, the first Punjab-born Sikh in the top defence job in Canada during the latter’s maiden official visit to India.

Khattar was speaking to the media after visiting Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan called on him here and evinced keen interest in investing in the northern state.

He said that follow-up meetings would be held to facilitate investment by Canadian companies in Haryana, which would help in creating job opportunities for the state's youths.

The Chief Minister said discussion was also held on the two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed during his visit to Canada in 2015.

It was decided to set up a Working Group to ensure the implementation of the MoUs on horticulture to be executed jointly by Haryana and Canada.

The Chief Minister apprised Sajjan of the progress made by Haryana in various fields.

Sajjan, earlier in the day, inaugurated the new office of the Consulate General of Canada here.

A day earlier, Sajjan paid obeisance at the Harmandar Sahib in Amritsar and visited other places in Punjab.
