Man Charged In Connection With Alleged Sexual Assaults At Nova Scotia Daycare

  • Man Charged In Connection With Alleged Sexual Assaults At Nova Scotia Daycare
KINGSTON, N.S. — Police in Nova Scotia investigating three sexual assaults at an unlicensed daycare are worried there are more victims, and are urging parents whose children attended the facility to get in touch.

A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with assaults involving three victims over the last 10 years, all at a residential daycare on Old French Road in Kingston, N.S.

RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke says because the daycare is unlicensed, it's hard to know how many children may have attended, but investigators want to hear from any parents who are worried their kids may have been victimized.

"If they have concerns, they need to contact us, and I'm sure any parent whose child has gone there would certainly be concerned," she said.

Clarke added that RCMP investigators work with the Department of Community Services to interview children in such cases.

Police launched an investigation Tuesday after learning that a youth was allegedly sexually assaulted by a man who lived in the daycare, but wasn't an employee.

"The victim is...willingly participating with the police. They've come forward and they're interested in pursuing this," said Clarke.

Two more victims came forward during the investigation. Clarke said the ages at the time of the alleged assaults ranged from pre-school to school aged.

Jeffrey Roy Casey of Kingston, N.S., appeared in Kentville provincial court Thursday to face three charges of sexual interference and sexual assault and two charges of invitation to sexual touching.

Casey was released on conditions and is scheduled to return to court late next month.
