Meet China's Oldest Male Model And 'Hottest Grandpa' Who Crushes Stereotypes With His Runway Swagger

IANS, 05 Nov, 2016 02:02 PM
Wang Deshun is quite possibly the best-looking elder in China. Born in 1936 in the northeastern city of Shenyang, the male model was one of nine children.

At the ripe old age of 80, he is determined to defy convention and enjoyed his catwalk modelling debut just last year.

In China, the legal retirement age for women is 50 for workers and 55 for civil servants, and age 60 for men.

"One way to tell if you're old or not is to ask yourself, 'do you dare try something you've never done before?'" Deshun said during a recent press conference in Beijing.

"Nature determines age, but you determine your state of mind," he added.

Deshun insists that he has always been athletic and it has allowed him to stay fit and healthy for most of his life. He took up swimming as a child and still swims over 800m everyday.

"Morning is my learning time," he told the New York Times. "I read books and news. From 3 until 6pm, is my exercise time, in a gym near my home."

The model caused a media frenzy when he first walked for Chinese designer Sheguang Hu, during the Autumn/Winter collections in 2015.

The fit and active senior also has a string of movie roles on his resume, including parts in The Forbidden Kingdom, Warriors of Heaven and Earth and Detective Dee: Mystery of the Phantom Flame.

"I am not picky at all about what I eat. I eat whatever I want," Deshun said of his diet and lifestyle.

Whatever he's doing to maintain his healthy outlook on life, it's certainly working.
