WATCH: Jalandhar Candidate Breaks Down Saying He Got Just 5 Votes, But Has 9 Family Members

Darpan News Desk, 24 May, 2019 06:30 PM

With BJP securing an overwhelming majority in the Lok Sabha elections, almost every other party and candidate were disappointed. But things were different for Neetu Shutteran Wala - an independent candidate from Jalandhar Punjab. The reason being, he got cheated by the ones he trusted the most.

In a video doing rounds on social media, Neetu can be seen crying not because he lost but he managed to get only 5 votes despite having a family of 9. He was disappointed of the fact that his own family members betrayed him by not voting for him.

Talking to a reporter outside the counting station, Neetu said, “I have nine votes in my family but got only five votes and this is shocking for me. My entire street had vowed to vote for me but I just got five votes. I had remained away from my shop for a month and worked among people but they did not vote for me.”

It seems Neetu got carried away by his emotions way too early because the final counting at the end of the result day revealed that he managed to get a total of 856 votes.

According to the official website of the Election Commission of India (ECI), Neetu was 19th on the overall list of candidates with 856 votes.

The video of the short interview has now gone viral, since people can't decide whether to sympathise with him or laugh at the situation.
