Abducted Pak Sikh Girl Jagjit Kaur's Family Asks Imran Khan, Gen Bajwa To Step In

Darpan News Desk IANS, 30 Aug, 2019 08:17 PM

The family of the abducted Sikh girl in Pakistan has alleged they are also being threatened with forcible conversion to Islam, and have appealed to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Pakistan army chief General Qamar Bajwa to restore the girl to them and ensure their protection.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has sought strict action into the abduction of the Sikh girl and her forced conversion to Islam.

The Chief Minister demanded Imran Khan’s immediate intervention in the matter. He also urged External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to take up the issue with his Pakistani counterpart at the earliest.

"Shocking incident of a Sikh girl being kidnapped & forced to convert to Islam in Nankana Sahib, Pakistan," Singh tweeted, tagging a video.

In the video message, the family of the girl has claimed that she was abducted and forcibly converted to Islam.

"Call upon@ImranKhanPTI to take firm and immediate action against the perpetrators. Request @DrS Jaishankar to strongly take up the issue with his counterpart at the earliest," he said.

In another video, the family of the girl alleged that she was “abducted” and “threatened” that if she didn’t convert into Islam, her brothers and father would be shot dead.

"The girl who was abducted yesterday is my sister. She was threatened that her brothers and father would be shot if she did not accept Islam," said one of the brothers who identified himself as Manmohan Singh. The family was also threatened with forced conversion.

"I request Imran Khan and Army Chief of Pakistan (Qamar Javed) Bajwa to help us in bringing the girl back so that it does not backfire on them on the Kartarpur and Kashmir issues," he added.

Several videos related to the incident went viral. In a clip the girl introduced herself as Jagjit Kaur. Her “nikahnama” was read out and she was asked for her consent for marrying Mohammad Hussain Zulfikar.

Later, she was seen admitting to the marriage and changing her name to Ayesha as per her own will.

On the other hand, it has been learnt that after the girl went missing, her family had lodged a complaint with the Nankana Sahib City police station. In another video, her brothers and father claimed that Jagjit was picked up by unidentified people, forced to change her religion and was married to a Muslim.
