Charanpreet Dhaliwal, Auckland Security Guard Killed By Blow To Head, Kin Scared To Join Probe

Darpan News Desk IANS, 22 Jul, 2015 11:18 AM
The family of an Indian, killed in an attack on his first day at job in New Zealand in November 2011, is frightened to attend a judicial inquiry into his death, a media report said.

Charanpreet Dhaliwal, 22, was found dead while working as a security guard at a construction site in Auckland.

According to the post-mortem examination report, he received a vicious blow to his head that killed him, Otago Daily Times reported on Wednesday.

A family member of Dhaliwal said that his mother Karanjit Kaur was too frightened to send her other son to New Zealand to attend the three-day inquest into his brother's death that began in the North Shore district court on Wednesday.

The family were bitter over their earlier experience with the New Zealand justice system, the daily added.

Dhaliwal had moved to New Zealand in 2010 as a student. He was employed by CNE Security to guard a Fulton Hogan construction depot in west Auckland's Selwood Road on the night of November 17, 2011.

A construction worker found his body in the early hours of November 18, 2011.

A 28-year-old man was earlier arrested for Dhaliwal's murder but he was released two years ago following a high court trial.
