Hardeep Saini, Sikh Teacher In Britain Accused Of Unprofessional Conduct Towards The Students

Darpan News Desk IANS, 20 Oct, 2015 06:53 PM
A Sikh teacher in Britain, along with his colleagues, is under trial for allegedly being guilty of unacceptable professional conduct towards the students while in school, a media report said.

According to the Birmingham Mail daily, the accused appeared before the National College for Teaching and Leadership tribunal on Tuesday for the fifth consecutive day.

The disciplinary hearings concerning the allegations are being linked to the Trojan Horse scandal -- an alleged plot by hardline Islamists to take over some Birmingham schools, the daily said.

A leaked document in March 2014, claiming that dirty tricks were being used to oust non-Muslim staff in an operation called Trojan Horse, prompted four separate enquiries and inspections of 15 city schools.

After the investigation it was alleged that staff in some schools are "undermining student tolerance and respect to faiths other than those who follow Islam," the report said.

Hardeep Saini, former principal of Golden Hillock School, is accused of not taking appropriate steps when a teacher at Golden Hillock School told Muslim students that their religion is the "true religion" and people from other faiths were "ignorant".

Saini is also accused of being ignorant when a teacher had agreed to a student's objection to being taught by a gay teacher.

The tribunal also heard that he, along with two other staff members, forced students to stand in the rain, stare at bushes or sit on tiles as punishment.

It is alleged that he agreed to the inclusion of an "undue amount of religious influence" in the education of the students at Park View School, Golden Hillock School and Nansen Primary School in the city by organising "overtly religious" assemblies and arranging "inappropriate" religious speakers at the schools.

Saini is also being tried for excluding the proper teaching of sex and relationships from the school curriculum, the daily added.

He is also accused of interfering with an investigation by advising one of the teachers to "throw his phone in the canal to make sure there was no trouble" when the teacher was under the lens regarding extreme pornography on his mobile phone.

Saini has denied all the allegations against him.
