An Indian man was arrested on Thursday at Frankfurt airport over a murder in Scotland 24 years ago, German and Scottish police said.
The 51-year-old suspect had just arrived from New Delhi when he was detained on a European arrest warrant for the 1993 murder of Ansar Shah in southwest Scotland.
Shah, 36, was stabbed to death in a car park, according to British media.
"It is anticipated that proceedings to return the man to Scottish jurisdiction will take place in due course," Scottish police said in a statement.
The accused faces life in prison if convicted of the crime.
The arrest came after a joint operation between Scottish authorities and law enforcement partners across Europe including Europol, French and German authorities, and the UK National Crime Agency.
