Indian Restaurateur Faces Manslaughter Charge In Britain Over Man's Peanut Death

Darpan News Desk IANS, 26 Mar, 2015 02:08 PM
An Indian restaurant owner in Britain has been charged with manslaughter following the death of a customer after eating curry prepared at the restaurant, a media report said on Thursday.

Owner of a number of award-winning food outlets, Mohammed Khalique Zaman, 52, was charged with manslaughter by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), The Independent reported.

Paul Wilson died last year of allergic reaction to peanuts after consuming the curry he had ordered at the Indian Garden restaurant in Easingwold, North Yorkshire.

Zaman is due to appear at Northallerton magistrates court on April 24. He has also been charged with perverting the course of justice and an employment offence under Britain's immigration law.

Wilson died before a new law making it mandatory for caterers to provide allergy information on unpackaged foods came into force, according to the report.
