Indian-Americans Donate $60,000 To Families Of Killed Dallas Cops

    The Indian-American community in Dallas has donated USD 60,000 to the family members of the Dallas police officers killed by a gunman during a recent protest against the fatal police shootings of black men.
     
    A cheque of USD 60,000 was recently presented to the Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Executive Assistant to Dallas Police Chief David Pughes, by a group of Indian-American community leaders led by AK Mago, founding chair of the US India Chamber of Commerce in Dallas.
     
    "We appreciate the protection you give us. We wanted to recognise what you do for us every day," MMr ago was quoted as saying by the local Dallas Morning News.
     
    "This is more than generous. I have such respect for the Indian community," Mr Rawling said.
     
    About half of the amount came from US-India Chamber and its members.
     
    Other groups, such as the Dallas Indian Lions Club, DFW Hindu Temple, the DFW Gujarati Samaj, the Karya Siddhi Hanuman Temple, the Jain Society of North Texas and the India Association of North Texas, donated about USD 5,000 each, the daily said.
     
    On July 7, a gunman ambushed and fired upon a group of police officers in Dallas, killing five officers and injuring nine others.
