Indian-origin father of 3 dies after being hit by car in US

New York, Feb 6 (IANS) A 39 year-old Indian-origin father of three, who had gone to pick up insulin and Pokemon cards for his children from a convenience store in the US, died after being hit by a car.
Pritesh Patel, a resident of Dauphin County in Pennsylvania, was crossing a road after leaving a convenience store at the Mushroom Hill Road when an eastbound vehicle hit him around on January 27, Penn Live reported.
Patel was flown to Hershey Medical Center, where he was kept alive by machines for a couple of days, before he died on January 30, police said.
According to police, Patel was not in a crosswalk, and surveillance footage showed eastbound traffic had a green light at the time.
Police were unable to say how fast the vehicle that hit Patel was going, the Penn Live reported.
They said that the driver stayed at the scene afterward and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
Elizabeth Pilukaitis, Patel's relative, told Penn Live that on the night of the accident, he was riding an e-bike to get some items for his sons.
Pilukaitis said he wanted to pick up insulin for his youngest son who has Type 1 diabetes, and Pokemon cards.
The Patel family has decided to donate Patel's kidneys following his death. Patel was supposed to start a new job at Dauphin County where he had recently moved in along with his family after spending more than a decade in Lancaster.
Since Patel was the sole earning member of the family, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help his family meet the funeral expenses.
The shooting came less than a week after a shooting at a Las Vegas hookah bar killed one person and wounded 13. That shooting last Saturday was described as an exchange of gunfire involving people at a private party. Police have arrested one suspect.
The meeting is set to culminate in a vote Friday on whether to set up a three-person expert panel. The vote by the 47-member-state body, which counts Ukraine and Russia as members, offers a bellwether of international sentiment about the Kremlin's invasion.
The Nasdaq fell 1.6% as technology companies led the way lower. Less risky sectors like utilities gained ground. Major indexes had rallied a day earlier after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said he favored a modest interest rate increase at the Fed’s policy meeting in two weeks.
Those targeted by the new sanctions include Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, and Alisher Burhanovich Usmanov, one of Russia’s wealthiest individuals and a close ally of Putin. The U.S. State Department also announced it was imposing visa bans on 19 Russian oligarchs and dozens of their family members and close associates.
An Indian medical student, Faisal, sent a video to IANS narrating his ordeal in the north-eastern city of Sumy in Ukraine. In the video, he said that around 500 Indian students are stuck in Sumy, which is 350 km from Kiev.
The embassy stated: "Urgent advisory to all Indian nationals in Kharkiv. For their safety and security they must leave Kharkiv immediately. Proceed to Pesochin, Babaye and Bezlyudovka as soon as possible."
