Man Jailed For Attacking British-Indian Pub Owner Jaswinder Singh Thandi In Kent

IANS, 21 Sep, 2015 11:32 AM
A court in Britain has sentenced a 51-year-old man for attacking an Indian-origin pub owner in Kent county, England, a media report said on Monday.

Jaswinder Singh Thandi was left with a broken finger and a deep cut on his head after Mark Prince tore apart a beer can and assaulted him on March 16 this year, Kent Online reported.

The court on September 14 sentenced Prince to two-and-a-half years in jail after he admitted injuring Thandi.

The owner of The Foresters Arms pub at Gravesend town's Parrock Street was assaulted after he asked Prince to move away from the doorway of his business.

"He (Prince) was drunk and aggressive," prosecutor Paul Valder said.

Prince spat in Thandi's face and lashed out at him when he tried to fight back.

"Matters came to head when the defendant ripped the can in half and struck him in the face, causing a gash to his forehead," Valder told the court.

Prince's lawyer Catharine Donnelly said her client had a long mental health history.

"This is far and away the most serious offence he has committed," she said.
