Mark Mulroney, Son Of Former PM Brian, Says No To Leadership Bid, For Now

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Oct, 2015 01:35 PM
OTTAWA — Toronto businessman Mark Mulroney says he won't run for the Conservative party leadership, but he's not closing the door forever.

Mulroney, son of former Progressive Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney, says his family is always interested in public service and politics, and he would never say never.

But Mulroney says for now he's focused on his job as the Toronto-based head of capital equity markets at National Bank.

Brian Mulroney was a high-profile labour lawyer who became deeply involved in Tory party politics, and was a corporate executive at the time of his leadership win in 1983.

Other names that have been circulating as potential leadership candidates include MPs Lisa Raitt, Jason Kenney, Kellie Leitch, Michael Chong and Tony Clement.

This week, Calgary MP Michelle Rempel mused publicly on Twitter about throwing her own hat into the ring.—
