Ministry Investigating Riot At Maximum Security Prison In Penetanguishene, Ont.

The Canadian Press, 20 Jun, 2015 01:10 PM
PENETANGUISHENE, Ont. — Ontario's Correctional Services Ministry is investigating after a riot at the maximum security Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene.

Ministry spokesman Greg Flood says the inmate disturbance came to a peaceful resolution on Thursday and no injuries were reported.

He says 19 inmates in two separate units refused to comply with directions and lock up their cells.

Chris Jackel, president of the union that represents prison employees, said on Twitter the riot involved 45 inmates.

Flood said an internal investigation is ongoing while minor repairs are being made to the cells.

He said inmates involved will be placed on misconduct and some have been relocated to an another facility.
