Surrey RCMP Looking For Man Who Escaped Police Custody While In Hospital

Darpan News Desk, 30 Dec, 2017 02:38 PM
SURREY, B.C. — RCMP in Surrey, B.C., are searching for a man who managed to give his police guard the slip and escape from a Metro Vancouver hospital while still wearing handcuffs.

A news release from Surrey RCMP says 46-year-old Richard Mantler was in custody for alleged property crimes and other offences.

He was in the restraints when he was taken to hospital for undisclosed medical treatment on Thursday afternoon but police say he fled through an emergency exit.

A search by officers and a police dog failed to find any trace of the man.

Mantler was wearing a white Adidas T-shirt with a red logo, blue jeans, black shoes, and the handcuffs when he vanished.

In addition to the earlier offences, RCMP say he is now wanted for escape from lawful custody.
