Trump says U.S. will 'be there' for NATO as threats toward Greenland rattle alliance

  • Trump says U.S. will 'be there' for NATO as threats toward Greenland rattle alliance

President Donald Trump says the United States will "be there" for NATO after the White House refused to rule out the use of military force to take control of Greenland.

In a post on social media today, Trump says Russia and China would have no fear of NATO without the contributions of the United States.

Trump's repeated comments about taking over Greenland, the self-governing territory of the kingdom of Denmark, have rattled members of the long-standing military alliance.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio says he will meet with the leaders of Denmark next week.

Rubio says Trump has always intended to buy Greenland.

Canada is a member of NATO and Prime Minister Mark Carney on Tuesday joined multiple European leaders in defending the sovereignty of Greenland.
